What is the fuss about our first album? – Totscus – Something Like This!

Playing in a band focused on their own compositions is not the same as when you’re playing covers. I played for many years in cover/tribute bands, so I know this for real. I remember touring with a Doors tribute band. We didn’t need to make too many rehearsals. There was enough to listen to the Doors songs on the road between gigs to play them damn god on the stage. With Totscus is way different. Making a song is like an excitingly-painful-never-ending story…

We did it because we have too many new ideas and we wanted to go further

Back to the subject: we didn’t think that this album will change the world or that “we owe it to the people”. We did it because we reached a moment when we had too many new ideas and we wanted to go further. You know that feeling: “I want to finish this to concentrate myself toward the next”? That’s it! We did it to be able to shape in our new songs. That’s great about us: After our first 4 months together we began to create new things in a tremendous rate.

I was willing to play covers all night long for some cash

The reason we play only our songs lies on my band mates Chris & Georg. Austria is a nice country when you are in contact with young people. The mature ones, which have the decision to give somebody a job, have a kind of cold-pragmatic-pure-rational way. (Don’t get me wrong, is nothing xenophobic, racist or uncivilized here) I just want to say that when we start this band I was willing to play covers all night long for some cash. On account of a balance with my band mates I embraced this spirit: making our songs. Now I am happier than ever.

Is about how we are feeling ourselves when our emotions and pains are leaving our bodies through our songs

We didn’t start it for the money, just for how we are feeling ourselves when our emotions and pains are leaving our bodies when we sing our songs. It is egoistic? Not if our songs will make you connect yourself with something torpid inside you. That’s the thing about music and art in general: The artist expresses his inner emotions in a specific form like a song in our case. The audience spirit is transposed because of that song in such a way that forgotten or unexpected emotions are awakened. So, is not egoistic and that’s why!
